2011/2012 National Ranking Tour
28th August 2011
Seismic Bowling
The Northern Ireland Tenpin Bowling Federation are pleased to announce that the forthcoming 2011/2012 National Ranking Tour will be run in association with Seismic Bowling. A host of exciting new changes will be in effect for the start of the new ranking season.

This season the National Ranking Tour, in association with Seismic Bowling Ltd, will incorporate a prizemoney competition at each event. The new season will consist of 7 events played between September and June. Each tour venue will have its own unique event title and will be played as an open competition (only NI bowlers will be eligible for Ranking Points). A guaranteed prize fund of £360.00 will be paid out to the Top 8 finalists at each event.

Each event will consist of 8 qualifying games (for National Ranking points your scratch score will be used after the completion of 8 games). In a new and exciting addition to the regular events, the top 8 players including handicap (75% of 220) will then contest the finals (1 game knockout). Knockout rounds will be seeded, with the highest seed playing the lowest seed and so on. The higher seed will select which player will start first.

The entry fees for NITBF members will be £32.00 (or for other national association members) and £35.00 for non-members. The junior (U19) entry fee will be £10.00, however they will only be entitled to junior ranking points, if a junior wishes to compete for the prizefund and adult ranking points then a full entry fee is to be paid.

Handicaps will be calculated as 75% of 220 and will be taken from ranking tour averages, a minimum of 3 past events (24 games) are required from the last 7 events of the 2010/2011 National Ranking Tour. Bowlers who do not meet this criteria will have their handicap calculated on the day, by deducting their lowest 2 games and highest 2 games and applying the handicap formula to the average of the remaining 4 games. After 3 events, their event average will be used.

The first event of the new season will be held at the Dundonald International Ice Bowl on 11th September, starting at 9.30am.

Senior Triple Crown 2011 - Report
17th June 2011

Selections made and invitations accepted Kenny Donnelly, Sam Hull, Michael Langston, Tony O’Hare, Alan Smith and Len Wrightson met at Belfast City Airport for the flight to Cardiff. Hire cars collected and the players set off for probably the most successful medal tally by a Northern Ireland team in this competition.

First stop was to drop the equipment off at the event venue, the Bowlplex in Nantgarw, Caerphilly and then across to the local restaurant for lunch. After a short drive to the hotel we returned to the bowl for practice. Everyone found play on the light oil conditions particularly challenging, this was a precursor to the tournament conditions for the weekend.

Mr Terry Richards presided over the Opening Ceremony on Friday morning and, after the usual pleasantries, the competition started with the Singles. First to show with a 242 was Gary Hopkins from the host country, this was closely followed by Kenny Donnelly (236) and Tony O’Hare (226). Kenny maintained his consistency to win the singles and collect the first Gold.

Saturday morning started with the doubles. Kenny and Tony formed quite a formidable partnership to convincingly win the second Gold (623 and 593 respectively). The team event was the next success; Alan led the way with 595 followed by Sam (577), Tony (557), Kenny (517) and Len (434) to maintain the Gold medal standard.

Once the scores were added together the All Events medals were presented, Tony finished third and won the Bronze, Alan the Silver and Gary Barlow won the Gold for England.

The top 8 players then progressed to a 7 game round robin. Champion and Gold Medal winner was Tony O’Hare, Alan and Kenny were placed 4th and 5th respectively.
The Triple Crown Shield went to England (412.5 points), narrowly beating Northern Ireland (405.5) and Ireland (379.5).

The scores of some don’t reflect how hard they had to work, particularly Len and Michael.  Everyone played their part in bringing home the honours. Congratulations and well done to all.

Full results can be viewed on the Tenpin Bowling Association of Wales website.
